Shopping Carts, 2006-2017
Shopping Carts was a photographic exploration of the effects of depression caused by General Anxiety Disorder and the many symptoms that came along with it. By using randomly found shopping carts to describe the feelings of displacement and abandonment. As the title expresses, for the first time, I am open and honest about my long-time struggle with General Anxiety Disorder.
At first, one might imagine images of isolated shopping carts in various urban locations can be labeled as a sociopolitical statement about consumerism and cultural identity. However, this project reflects on how I dealt with my Anxiety disorder without using medications. The photographs illustrate the constant feeling of loneliness and the need to hide. In saying that, I believe they can be open for suggestion.
